Clinical Research Activities
The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) through the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) will be collaborating with Optima research initiatives in the upcoming months. The collaboration will be used to create links with Canadian University Professors that are capable of creating protocols to investigate the mechanisms behind the success of the KKT™. Future NRC-IRAP collaboration is slated to establish future research activities after the protocols are developed.
Our resident researcher, Geoff Desmoulin, is working with Dr. Hunter of the University of Calgary on a paper entitled "Investigation of the biological aspects of KKT™ treatment on the intervertebral disk". This research will provide more insight into KKT™'s mechanism of pain relief at the intervertebral disk level, and will help in determining progressive optimum load and frequency adjustments to further stimulate biosynthesis.
A two part review article has been submitted for publication to the American Journal of Pain Management and early results utilizing KKT™ have been presented at several scientific and technology related events. Most notably, the 2006 Northwest Biomechanics Symposium held at the University of British Columbia, Canada where the interest of key university professors was attracted. At the Tech Med 2006 presentation held at the prestigious Segal School of Business, as expected the attention of several technology focused groups was also gained.
Ethics approval is expected to be obtained soon for additional in-house studies including those for neck pain and temporomandibular disorders. All preparations necessary for the initiation of these studies is complete and awaiting further ethics approval. Furthermore, a neck pain study has been submitted to Pain Research & Management Journal and is currently in peer review, while an additional study on improvement to back pain has been submitted to the Journal of Musculo Skeletal Pain and has been accepted
